*SPOILER WARNING!*

We start with a tiny bit of clarity as to what happened after Beth fainted from the tranquilizer overdose. She’s being punished for what she did and whatnot by getting some privileges taken away. However, the episode doesn’t focus much on 9 year old Beth. Instead, a new scene opens and we see slightly older 15 year old Beth and Jolene still at the orphanage.

They’re probably BFFs at this point after all the time they’ve spent together at this orphanage. Pretty sad that it’s harder for older kids to be adopted. However, this couple pulls up and turns out they’re here to interview Beth for adoption! I was a little confused why the orphan leader lady told Beth to say she’s 13 when she was actually 15 because if the family adopts her wouldn’t they eventually find out she’s older? Or does she have to lie for the rest of her life? It all happens pretty fast and Beth is told to pack her bags and go live a new life with her adoptive parents. The saddest part to me is that she has to leave Jolene behind, but they’re both not super emotional people so there is no tearful goodbye. Also who is Mr. Shaibel going to play chess with in the basement now?

Beth is driven to her new home, which is super nice and in what looks like a great neighborhood. It becomes clear that the “dad” aka Alston…
